Juneteenth at Mystic Seaport Museum

Commemorate Juneteenth at Mystic Seaport Museum! In honor of the official emancipation of enslaved people in Texas in 1865, the Museum will host a dynamic program which begins at 3:00 p.m. with a poetry reading by former Poet Laureate of New London, Rhonda Ward. Then enjoy a presentation by John Mills, founder of the Alex Breanne Corporation, an organization dedicated to researching, interrogating, and presenting the lesser-known stories representing the life experience of the American enslaved, from an African American perspective. The program will close with a live musical performance by the Niantic Community Church Gospel Choir. While you're here, visit Entwined: Freedom, Sovereignty, and the Sea, a major exhibition centering maritime histories in Indigenous, African, and African-descended worldviews and experiences.
